Stupid Christmas Carols - Wonderful Christmas Time

The mood is right
The spirits up
We're here tonight
And that's enough

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time

The party's on
The feeling's here
That only comes
This time of year

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time

The choir of children sing their song
Ding dong, ding dong
Ding dong, ding ohhhh
Ohhhhhhh

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time

The word is out
About the town
To lift a glass
Ahhh don't look down

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time

The choir of children sing their song
They practiced all year long
Ding dong, ding dong
Ding dong, ding dong
Ding dong, ding dong

The party's on
The spirits up
We're here tonight
And that's enough

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time

The mood is right
The spirits up
We're here tonight
And that's enough

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time

Ohhhhhhhhh
Ohhhhhhhhh
Christmas time

I must admit while I don't care for all versions of this song Jars of Clay has a really nice version that I do enjoy, however even with enjoying it there are still some parts of the song that don't make a whole lot of sense. Lets start the tapes and spin some vinyl.
The first verse, the mood is right, the spirits up, we're here tonight, and that's enough. Excuse me, but what? I know the Beatles were druggies, but this really doesn't make sense, what is the mood right for? the spirits up, which spirit? where is here? it enough, enough for what? so many questions, so few no answers.
Maybe the chorus will answers some of the questions that the first verse introduced, simply having a wonderful Christmas time. Well looks like I may have spoken too soon, 'cause this doesn't answer any of the questions that the first verse introduced. We know what and when now, but still don't know too much.
Verse two could bring a change. The parties on, the feelings here, that only comes this time of year. Ya, not really, I guess the mood is right for the party, and the spirit might be referring to the feelings, but nothings been very cut and dry yet.
Third verse, if I can call it that, the choir of children sing their song, ding dong, is a song? I'm sorry choir, but you are horrible, that song, that verse five tells us you've been practicing all year long stinks. Seriously, you spent a full year learning a song, that you can only sing for a few weeks, and more over the song has three words? Not to insult you or anything, totally insulting the choir here, you are horrible, disband and take up coloring or playing tic-tac-toe, something more suited for toddlers.
Back on topic, verse four. The word is out about the town, to lift a glass ahh don't look down. I wish I knew what the word was that was out about the town, but I guess we don't have enough illuminati clearance to get access to that information. What is it about the glass that has me feeling out of place, lift a glass ahh don't look down, what shouldn't I be looking down at, what is in the glass, or something on the ground that is threatening to harm me. Has the zombie apocalypse started, are crawlers moving in for the kill? or is this just some LDS influenced stuff, wouldn't be surprised if the entire song was inspired by a drug trip.
The rest of the song just repeats stuff we've already gone over, and still continues to not make sense. The entire song if you think about it really doesn't make sense, so many things are said but don't form complete thoughts, many things mentioned bring up questions, but no answers are ever offered.

This will probably be my last stupid Christmas song post until next year, when I'll write up a bunch of new posts about songs that I haven't already covered.
